BOLOGNANO Neriage Vessel #B1
This sculptural ceramic vessel is formed using the neriage technique, where differently pigmented clays are blended to create fluid, stone-like patterns throughout the body of the form. The surface is marked by swirling veins of charcoal, graphite, deep gray, and muted black, interwoven with soft traces of pale gray and off-white, evoking eroded rock, mineral deposits, and water-shaped stone.
The interior of the vessel unfolds in a continuous, wave-like movement, recalling the flow of the Orta River as it cuts through the landscape of Bolognano. The form is open and expansive, with carved passages and negative spaces that echo the openness of a canyon—allowing light, air, and the viewer’s gaze to pass through the object rather than containing it. The elevated central collar rises like a geological fold, while the surrounding basin reads as a carved riverbed.
Inspired by the rocky terrain and canyon formations of Bolognano, this piece exists between vessel and sculpture. It reflects the dialogue between water and stone, movement and erosion, interior flow and exterior openness—capturing a landscape shaped slowly over time.
