BOLOGNANO Neriage Vessel #B1
This ceramic vessel brings together two distinct visual languages through a dialogue of nerikomi and neriage.
The interior reveals nerikomi striping—controlled, linear bands that run rhythmically through the form. These layered stripes recall the flow of the Orta River, reading like sediment carried by water, compressed into horizontal movement and depth.
The exterior surface is formed through neriage, where pigmented clays are blended more freely to create fluid, eroded patterns. These marbled surfaces evoke canyons carved into stone, with sweeping curves, softened edges, and a sense of slow geological transformation. The contrast between the ordered interior and the expressive exterior highlights the tension between flow and erosion, structure and release.
The open apertures cut through the body of the vessel, allowing the interior and exterior patterns to visually meet. Existing between vessel and sculpture, the piece reads as a landscape in miniature—water moving within, stone shaped without, and time embedded throughout the clay.
