PESCARA Nerikomi & Neriage Vessel #P4
This ceramic vessel combines nerikomi and neriage techniques in a layered dialogue between interior structure and exterior flow. The interior and structural core reveal controlled, linear banding characteristic of nerikomi, visible through the carved openings and along the rim in tones of charcoal, graphite, and soft gray.
The exterior surface is formed through neriage, with fluid, marbled patterns in blue-gray, slate, deep gray, and off-white, recalling water, stone, and sediment shaped by the Adriatic coast. Accents of muted coral and red appear along the edges of the openings and within the surface like flashes of summer heat—echoing sun-warmed clay, coastal architecture, and the intensity of the season.
The form is rounded and open, punctured by apertures that allow light, air, and the viewer’s gaze to pass through. These voids transform the object from a closed container into an open, sculptural landscape. Inspired by summer in Pescara, the piece reflects the meeting of land and sea, structure and movement, material and atmosphere.
